INDUSTRY TRENDS
EU MEMBER STATES CLOCK UP 1M BROADBAND CONNECTIONS
The latest European Competitive Telecommunications Association
(ECTA) scorecard confirms that the 10 new EU member states now have 1
million broadband connections between them. Whole broadband usage has
increased by a half in the last few quarters of past years to 33M this
quarter, as consumers have responded to the steadily growing choice of
offerings available from entrants in the market. Notable
exceptions to this drop have been Germany, Portugal and the
Netherlands. The number of ATM interconnect connections has
increased the most substantially, although there are signs that growth
is slowing here. For more information, please see
www.ectaportal.com or for the detailed scorecard, please see www.ectaportal.com/uploads/BroadbandScorecardQ32004.pdf
ONLINE INTELLIGENCE FOR THE BROADBAND ECONOMY
Telephony launched a new and improved edition of its online
publication, www.telephonyonline.com. This upgrade includes
several new additions to industry-leading daily online news efforts in
the form of new features, commentary, metrics, web casts and other
initiatives. This will bring the telecom industry more timely and
relevant information.
