NTGTS is pleased to host and welcome Mr. Sergio Michelson Jaramillo back to Texas as our featured speaker for April 2006. Mr. Sergio Michelson, is a Partner with the Colombian law firm of Brigard & Urrutia, Abogados. Mr. Michelson will discuss "The Future of Broadband in Latin America."
Broadband and mobile telephony are the areas of telecommunications where expectations are higher in Latin America. Over the past few years, the changes in the telecommunications regulations and the relative economic stability in the region have significantly improved these services, along with increased foreign investment. With this background, Mr. Michelson will present to us the current status of the telecommunications sector in Latin America; trends of the regulatory environment, principle legal obstacles for the implementation of new technologies, market opportunities, and finally, case examples of success in Colombia.
Mr. Michelson has been a Partner with Brigard & Urrutia since December 1992. He is a member of the International Bar Association; the North Texas Global Telecommunications Society; American Society of International Law; Institute for Transnational Arbitration, Dallas, TX; Young President’s Organization ("YPO"); Colombian Commercial Lawyers Association; Lawyer Association, University of Los Andes. He received his law degree from the Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá and is admitted to practice law in Colombia. He also has a Masters Degree in Commercial Law from the University of Paris II, and has done intensive studies on the U.S. legal system at the University of Texas.
