We are working on November and December networking events with other Texas area non-profit and industry organizations. In January 2008, we will host an evening panel program on IPTV issues with a moderator and several panelists. Watch your e-mail inbox for more details on these events. In Washington, D.C., prior to year-end, we would like to host several events. If you would like to host the Chapter and have a program or speaker in mind, please contact programs@ntgts.org by Wednesday, October 24. The organization is always open to comments and feedback. If there are areas you believe can be improved, please contact membership@ntgts.org. We look forward to receiving and hearing your suggestions. Finally, if you know of undergraduate and/or graduate level students in either the Dallas/Fort Worth or Washington, D.C. areas who are studying e-commerce, IT, telecoms, computers, and other related disciplines, please remind them about our stellar internship program. Azif NTGTS/CTC LEADER APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT AT SENSORLOGIC Larry Pereira who has been serving as Secretary of NTGTS/CTC for several years has recently been appointed Vice President of Marketing at SensorLogic. SensorLogic is a pioneer in the intelligent asset management market. Prior to joining SensorLogic, Larry was Vice President at Adaptive Instruments Corp., where he was responsible for the OEM sector. Congratulations Larry! We wish you all the best in your new position. If you are interested in building your leadership skills, networking with executives from all over the world and further enhancing your industry experience and knowledgebase, becoming a part of the NTGTS/CTC Leadership may be an excellent opportunity for you. The organization is now accepting Leadership applications for various positions in Texas and Washington, D.C. Note that you do not have to reside in either market, but if you do, it may be easier for continuity purposes. Once we receive your application, an NTGTS/CTC representative will be in contact with you. CALL FOR INTERNS NTGTS/CTC is currently seeking interns. The ideal candidate should have some work and academic experience in the telecom and IT sectors. We rely upon the support of our interns on various projects. In return, interns are given tremendous opportunity to learn about telecommunications and IT trends, issues and developments as well as non-profit organization and management through hands-on experience. These internships are excellent opportunities and coveted positions in order to develop industry, event planning, fundraising, communication and leadership skills; make valuable industry contacts; and become familiar with the telecom and high tech landscape. Although the positions are unpaid, educational credit is possible.
Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to president@ntgts.org by Wednesday, October 24. Cover letters should be in the body of your e-mail and should state the main items you hope to accomplish or learn during the internship. In addition, please also include, three references (professional or academic), GPA (no transcript required), description of major and types of courses taking in program, and describe past volunteer/civic activities, if any. TEXAS IT/TELECOM TRADE MISSION TO THE PHILIPPINES Gus Mercado, Chairman and CEO of Datalogix Texas and former Philippine Consul-General in Houston recently announced that the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce of North Texas is sending a special IT Trade Mission to the Philippines from October 22-27, 2007. This mission is in response to the Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo call for U.S. industry to do business in the Philippines. The trade mission will focus on IT/telecom outsourcing and joint venture opportunities, as well as pursue business partnerships in finance, legal services, export and real estate. HIGH TECH CONNECTIONS Building on the successful launch of High Tech Connections (HTC) in the Silicon Valley in 2004 and its follow-up success at the HTC Forum in Boston in 2005, the third High Tech Connections Forum took place in San Francisco, USA on September 23-25, 2007. The 2007 edition attracted nearly 300 delegates from the Netherlands and the USA. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the US Embassy in the Netherlands created HTC. It is a unique public and private consortium dedicated to promoting technological exchanges to drive innovation and pioneer new business matchmaking among American and Dutch companies, institutions and universities.
