NTGTS/CTC July 17 Panel Program and Discussion on IPTV Services and Applications
Please join the North Texas Global Telecommunications Society (NTGTS) for its Monthly Program on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at The University of Dallas, Frisco Campus, 7460 Warren Parkway, Frisco, TX. The program will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST. NTGTS is pleased to host a panel program and discussion on IPTV services and applications. We will hear from Mr. Howard Gunn, President, Digital Market Inc. and NTGTS Programs Task Force Member, will discuss whether enterprise broadband will obsolete today’s channalized IPTV consumer services before they even get started. Finally, we will round things out with a presentation by Ather Chaudhry, Director of Architecture, IPTV & Network Architecture, Alcatel-Lucent, on practical design, implementation and operations of end-to-end IPTV networks and services. Mr. Howard Gunn author and digital infrastructure innovator has brought many of today’s mainstream digital infrastructure product lines to market. His background includes the delivery of the first digital toll tandem, the first blade server, the first softswitch for broadband voice services, the first multi protocol ATM switching service, the first 4 fiber bi-directional SONET Rings, the first ATM video switching service and the first closed circuit HDTV broadband broadcasting service in the U.S. In his current role at Digital Mart his development team is bringing one of the first PCI compliant secured IP switch router services to market, for use in the financial services industry. Howard’s most recent book, “The Basics of IPTV” was published by the International Engineering Consortium. The book currently serves as a primer and technology overview for cable, fiber, terrestrial wireless and satellite engineers. Howard’s discussion tonight will focus on describing the financial and technical risks of not delivering enterprise broadband to the home consumer.
Mr. Chaudhry has15 years of progressive experience in the telecommunications industry at Alcatel-Lucent, Caspian, Verizon Business and NASA. He has designed and implemented IPTV, IP/MPLS/VPN and FR/ATM Core & Access networks and/or products and played an instrumental role in Alcatel-Lucent's IPTV wins and subsequent implementations at AT&T, Telmex and other customers. Mr. Chaudhry is a technical member and active participant at the DSL Forum, NANOG, IETF and ITU-T standards bodies. He has published several technical papers on various telecom topics and is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposiums. Mr. Chaudhry is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Graduate School. He earned a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University and B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
