Our 2011 Events Calendar is rapidly budding with a comprehensive roster of exciting and relevant programs for the first half of the year on such topics as home entertainment/lifestyle technologies, desktop virtualization, latency hosting, cloud computing, competitive broadband trends, secure private networks as well as many others. The launch of our women’s special interest group by the DC Chapter, CTC, with a networking reception on March 28, debuted to an impressive audience of some of the DC region’s top women leaders in telecom and technology. I also want to welcome our newest corporate member, XC Networks. XC Networks, a premier provider of cross-border communications that is based in Dallas, will be contributing CEO Tom Spackman’s experience and expertise to our Advisory Board.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our upcoming events. My very best, Jeremy L. Azif Recap of CTC Networking Reception and Launch of Women’s Special Interest Group On March 28, 2011, CTC-DC Chapter convened at the Fairmont Hotel for a terrific Networking Reception to celebrate the launch of the organization’s women’s special interest group for women in technology and telecommunications. The event was well attended and garnered excellent feedback. The organization will be returning to the Fairmont in mid-May for another event and this time, it will be in conjunction with the annual International Telecommunications Week (ITW) 2011 global wholesale communications conference. The event notice will be issued shortly so be on the lookout for more details. XC Networks Joins NTGTS/CTC as Corporate Member NTGTS/CTC welcomes XC networks as the organization’s newest corporate member. The original founding company, BorderComm, was started in 1986 and based out of El Paso, Texas. It specialized in providing connectivity to the maquiladoras in Juarez, Mexico. In 1998, when the Mexican government issued concessions to 14 major telecommunications providers, XC Networks' sister company, X.C. Networks S.A. de C.V., became a holder of the twenty year concession with a renewal option. The spectra concessions XC Networks holds are in the 23 GHz and 10.5 GHz spectra bands as well a public concession. In 2005, the company successfully acquired the spectrum concessions of Protel S.A. de C.V. This allowed XC Networks to rapidly deploy services in underdeveloped markets. In 2006, the company expanded operations in the United States by acquiring the profitable assets of Corban Communications in Dallas, Texas. By acquiring these assets, XC Networks was able to expand the company footprint in the North American market. In 2008, XC Networks divested a significant portion of Northern assets allowing them to once again focus on the profitable Southern assets. We look forward to XC Networks involvement in the organization as well as Tom Spackman, the company CEO’s participation, on our Advisory Board. For more information about XC Networks, see www.xcnetworks.com. INTERVIEW WITH NEW ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER TOM SPACKMAN How did you get started in the telecoms and high tech industry? I bought the current company I am working for in a bankruptcy auction…a case of being at the right place at the right time. What advice do you have for others who are new to these fields? Be technically competent – preferably with an engineering degree (advice comes from a lawyer with no technical training). What is your biggest challenge? Finding profitable business opportunities. How do you balance work and life? Make your family your #1 priority. Please describe an average day in your life. I spend the first 30 minutes of my day trading stock and options. I spend about 40% of my time travelling visiting our operations and meeting with customers. I spend the other 60% of my days working on operational and strategic issues. What I do. CEO of XC Networks. Technology I cannot live without. Internet Technology I can live without. Social Media Favorite Restaurant anywhere in the world. Las Mananitas, Cuerna Vaca, Mexico CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS We need leaders! We need assistance in membership, programming, and other strategic areas. Please contact the NTGTS/CTC President at president@ntgts.org if you are interested in serving, or would like to suggest someone else who might be interested. Please express your level of interest, provide us a brief biography (3-8 lines), and your contact details. Once we receive your information, we will review it and be in touch. Interested in Hosting an NTGTS/CTC Event NTGTS/CTC appreciates the support of its members and host sponsors who provide space for our events. We are currently seeking new locations to host our events in the Dallas/Fort Worth and Washington, D.C. areas. We need conference rooms that can seat at least 30 people (more if possible) for our events. We also would be open to auditorium type locations such as an amphitheater or meeting rooms that can accommodate a minimum of 60 people. If the location has audiovisual and technical capabilities, that would be helpful. Facilities that have microphones, teleconference bridges, video projection capabilities and access to Internet for presentations, would also be excellent. We are seeking alternative venues for our breakfast, lunch, and/or evening events. Our event types vary based on speakers, location, time, etc. If your company or organization has the facilities, wants more exposure within the technology and telecommunications sectors and wants to host our events, please e-mail the NTGTS/CTC President at president@ntgts.org. If your company or organization serves as host sponsor, we will provide name recognition, your logo and website link on our website and event marketing materials, including e-mail notices to our members and other interested parties worldwide where you company will be featured. Other benefits to your company or organization as meeting host can be discussed further. ANNUAL NTGTS/CTC SURVEY NTGTS will be conducting its 2011 Annual On-line Survey to receive feedback from its entire community to engage in providing better services. This survey will consist of various questions and will ask for your feedback on your experience with the organization. The Survey will be distributed soon and we appreciate your time to respond to it. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE Have we recently heard from you?
