Since April 2004, Jennifer S. Ullman is Associate Director for International Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Verizon Communications located in Washington, D.C. In this present position, Ullman supports Verizon’s interests before U.S. and international regulatory authorities including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Ullman also supports work on complex international public policy and regulatory issues to develop effective and reasoned positions that promote the interests of Verizon before government and industry. She assists with advocacy work with key contacts in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere to promote positive outcomes for Verizon while avoiding adoption of burdensome and costly government regulation. She also supports that Verizon's viewpoint is effectively communicated to key policy makers in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere. In addition, Ullman provides international public policy and regulatory support to Verizon affiliates and business units.
Prior to her current role, since 1998, Ullman was a Manager for International Regulatory in Verizon International (formerly GTE International) located in Irving, Texas. In this role, Ullman provided regulatory support, in/out-of-country consulting and expertise to Verizon's portfolio of international investments. Her principal focus was on regulatory issues relating to Verizon’s wireline and wireless operations in the Americas, Asia and Europe. Ullman also was a Business Analyst in the International Network Planning, Product Market & Management group of Genuity (formerly GTE Internetworking, now Level 3). In this role, she supported the planning and securing of facilities and undersea submarine cable systems for GTE products including joint planning with GTE international affiliates through business and market development, strategic planning and network optimization.
Ullman was a Consultant in the Telecommunications and Information Technology Practice at Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Inc. in McLean, Virginia. She also worked as a Product Manager at a business information services start-up in Arlington, Virginia and in the New Media division of Reuters America in Reston, Virginia.
Ullman is bi-lingual (Spanish/English) and has working knowledge of French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Catalan. Ullman also has translation and interpretation expertise (Spanish/English and English/Spanish). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Political Science with a Minor in German from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in International Policy Studies with a Specialization in Political Economies of Latin America and Hispanic Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California.
Ullman lived and studied her Academic Junior Year Abroad at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Madrid, Spain. She has extensive international experience working in Latin America with additional background living, traveling and working in Australia, Canada, and Europe.
Ullman is active with several non-profit organizations and has also volunteered significant time to various charities in mentoring, speaking, event support, and other capacities to help advance the objectives and goals of different organizations. She has extensive international sports experience with large-scale sporting events including the Winter and Summer Olympic Games, Pan American Games, Special Olympics, and Olympic Bid City projects. |
